Be it hosting parties or attending some- food and great food is ALWAYS the centre of it. Especially the ones around christmas and new years- the weather is beautiful, everyone is happy and you so want to party. It is at such times when I have seen my clients alternate their party days with fasting days so as to want to balance the calories. But trust me, that is the MOST INCORRECT WAY of going about it. Remember the thumb rule always- NEVER GO TO A PARTY ON AN EMPTY STOMACH. Even if you are able to manage this one rule, your work is half done already.
